Embracing a Healthy Summer in Recovery

Introduction

Summer is the perfect time for rejuvenation and embracing healthy activities. If you or someone you know is in recovery, this is an ideal opportunity to explore new experiences while maintaining a commitment to health and wellness. Here are some fantastic activities to consider for a healthy summer:

1. Outdoor Exercise

Take advantage of the pleasant weather by engaging in outdoor exercise. Go for a brisk walk along a scenic trail, try cycling, or even take up paddleboarding. Exercising in nature not only improves physical health but also enhances mental well-being. Remember to stay hydrated and wear sunscreen while enjoying your workout.

At Foundations Group Recovery Centers, we believe that exercise is vital to building a strong foundation in your recovery. That's why we're excited to announce the launch of our run club! Our run club is open to anyone who is interested in improving their physical health and wellness. Whether you're a seasoned runner or just starting out, our supportive community is here to help you reach your goals. Our runs range from 1-3 miles and are designed to accommodate all fitness levels.

2. Gardening

Gardening provides a serene setting while encouraging a sense of responsibility and nurturing. Start a small garden or tend to existing plants. Research shows that spending time in nature can reduce stress and improve mood. Plus, the fresh produce from your garden can help you maintain a healthy diet.

3. Explore Mindfulness

Summer offers ample opportunities to practice mindfulness. Engage in activities like yoga, meditation, or just sitting in silence while enjoying the sounds of nature. Embracing mindfulness techniques will enhance relaxation and promote self-awareness, enabling you to stay grounded throughout your recovery journey. Were on the precipice of having alternative and holistic therapies revolutionizing how we treat substance use, mental health and co-occurring disorders. At Foundations Group Recovery Centers, we realize that our clients needs are evolving with the advances within the industry. We are proud to offer a variety of treatment modalities at our addiction treatment center in Mashpee, Ma to expose our clients to multiple paths of recovery.

4. Learn a New Skill

Why not make this summer a time of growth and exploration? Consider learning a new skill or hobby that sparks your interest. Engage in activities like painting, cooking, or playing a musical instrument. These activities can be both enjoyable and therapeutic, providing a much-needed distraction from the challenges of recovery.

5. Connect with Supportive Communities

Building a strong support system is crucial for long-term recovery. Take advantage of the summer months to connect with supportive communities. Attend local recovery meetings, join sober social groups, or participate in virtual support networks. Surrounding yourself with like-minded individuals will help you stay accountable and motivated.

The path to recovery extends far beyond your time with us here at Foundations Group Recovery Centers. Recovery from a substance use disorder is ongoing and finding a support system is critical.

One of the best ways you can sustain and support long-term recovery is to become involved in the FGRC Alumni Program. From alumni recovery meetings, speaking with current patients and attending Alumni events, there are many opportunities to help others build their foundation in recovery.

Supporting others in recovery is also a great way to promote your own recovery efforts. Assisting others keeps you grounded and creates opportunities to reconnect with like-minded individuals and groups.

6. Volunteer for a Cause

Contributing to the community through volunteering can provide a sense of purpose and fulfillment. Reach out to local charities, shelters, or environmental organizations and offer your time and skills. Not only will you be making a positive impact, but volunteering can also boost self-esteem and promote a sense of connection with others.

7. Explore Healthy Eating

Summer brings a bounty of fresh fruits and vegetables, giving you the perfect opportunity to explore healthy eating. Visit local farmers' markets and try seasonal produce. Experiment with nutritious recipes and enjoy the flavors of the season. Eating a balanced diet is essential for both physical and emotional well-being.

Remember, while participating in these activities, it is important to prioritize your recovery and maintain healthy boundaries. Listen to your body and mind, and if needed, consult with your healthcare professional to ensure you are engaging in activities that align with your individual recovery journey.

Let this summer be a time of growth, healing, and celebration of your recovery. Embrace the healthy activities available to you and create a summer full of memorable experiences that nourish your body and soul.
